Does anyone else?

...make sure that your husband is driving your car at the exact moment that it will need more gasoline so that you don't have to pump it yourself?

Me either.

spoken from the mouths of babes

I couldn't resist posting this submission from our anti-drug illustration contest we did at work.

Amen, brother. I love my job.

the caboose of tax season

Tax day came and went and I say "good riddance!" Hallelujah!

Don't get me wrong; I think paying the government is fab but I am very ready to have husband working less than 75 hours a week. Things like conversations, meals at a table, an entire movie have been foreign concepts to us the past few months.

With the caboose of tax season brings the promise of newlywed-ness again. I plan on spending so much quality time together this summer that by the time tax season rolls around next year we'll cheer. I'm kidding.  About the cheering that is. We aren't really cheering people.

Does anyone else?

.....want to say something snarky and passive aggressive on facebook, but press the delete button {just in time} to keep from making an arse out of yourself?

Oh man, I am about to start seeking therapy for the above mention disorder.

Our Master-ly Windows

The fabric I ordered a billion years ago arrived and now we have some bedroom curtains. Now our master bedroom feels so "master-ly."

We have had them up for a few weeks now and have used them zero times for their intended purpose {blocking out the sunlight} because:
1. I typically buy things based sheerly on aesthetic rather than practicality
2. There has been no sunshine in Missouri since we hung these puppies up

Happy Easter!

I survived hosting my first holiday as Mrs. Bennett, and had a wonderful time cooking for everyone in my tiny kitchen. My heart is so full and I am SO exhausted! I took a nice long nap this afternoon after everyone left {but that is really pretty standard 'round here!}

Saturday afternoon I helped host a "flash mob" with some of the kids I have the pleasure of working with immediately following Kansas City's big Easter parade. I was nervous that we would not be well received but that was not the case. We made it on the Easter morning news! Check it out HERE

Then my family had our own little Easter egg hunt at the park. It was the grown-up version with truffles inside of the plastic eggs. I ended up being the biggest loser in more ways than one: I found less eggs than JJ, my sister and my sister-in-law AND I sprained my ankle tripping over a pot hole.
Pictures my sister in law took of husband 1. trying to tackle me and
2. trying to steal some of the very few Easter eggs I did find

Instead of cleaning up the mess in the kitchen I'm sitting down with a few episodes of Mad Men, a glass of red wine and a big bag of ice for my sore ankle. Happy Easter everyone!

sister date night

My sister and I had the most wonderful date night on Saturday and it makes me giddy that she might be moving here soon. We went to dinner at a fun place that I've never been, then went to have a drink at a bar around an outside fire pit, then saw Water for Elephants at a theatre that serves brownie sundaes and cocktails, then came home and dyed Easter eggs and baked some goodies for tomorrow's Easter extravaganza. Then we laid in bed and watched "Say Yes to the Dress."

It was g.l.o.r.i.o.u.s.

And, she has awesome taste! Check out what she gave me for Christmas last year:

Oh, Hey!

Sorry for the absence. I don't have a good excuse.

My allergies have been so out of control lately that I have turned into "Elise four-eyes." Yes, that's right, my eyes have been so swollen that I cannot even get my contacts in. Typically wearing glasses doesn't bother me too much but I had TWO bachelorette parties last Saturday night and I was feeling a little eye self-conscious. So, instead of being able to see {as most would view vital},  I refused to wear my glasses to the parties and bar hopped blind. I litterly couldn't even see the keys on my phone to call JJ to come pick me up. I'm THAT friend.

Today some of the kids I work with are hosting a flash mob at an Easter parade. Then I'm hosting eight people in my apartment for Easter dinner. Summary: my weekend is going to be a zoo.

Can't wait for May 1

Guess where I'll be May 1st? Target! That's the day their new Calypso line hits the stores. I love Calypso but have never been able to afford their stuff....until now!

Back to reality

We were back to work (back to reality?) today and I felt overwhelmed by the number of emails, voicemails, and stacks of papers that had piled up. During the last four days I have spent 25 hours in the car. Typically I'm not cool enough to know all of the current music on the radio but now I feel like I could probably karaoke the Billboard top 25 chart.

I had the pleasure of hosting a wedding shower for a long-time friend on Saturday. My mother and I had a lot of fun planning and decorating for the event, with lots of inspiration from a recent shower for Maggie's sister.
We hung kitchen gadgets from a ficus branch in the center of the table. The guests wrote wishes and advice to the bride and hung them on the tree.
All of the guests got to chose a cupcake to take home with them.

an unplanned trip

We're headed to Memphis tonight for an unexpected visit. One of the neatest men I've had the pleasure of knowing was suddenly taken from us and we've dropped everything to go be with family.

There are some things that pre-marriage counseling just doesn't train you for. How to comfort your husband when he loses his grandfather is one of them. It's times like these I wish I had more of my sister's nurturing skills and less of my own sarcastic wit.

This past week and a half has been a whirlwind of extreme busyness at work, preparing to host a wedding shower this weekend, helping my accountant husband through tax season and numerous other projects and obligations. This death has really brought to my attention how much I take for granted that the people I love will be there when I finally make time for them. It really is too bad that it takes a tragedy for me to realize that.

It's more pleasant to be a pack mule than to make 2 trips

I've noticed that in my past 6 years of apartment living I've become an excellent pack mule.
I carry every grocery bag, jacket, laptop and charger, pieces of trash, yoga mat, change of clothes, hair clip, random note from work, and purse because it's somehow more pleasant to be a pack mule than to make two trips. Why is that?

This must be part of a deeply ingrained brain disorder bred by laziness and pride. I can't help but wonder how much an actual pack mule would run me. Don't be surprised if I'm surfing the internet for pack mule ads all evening.
