Hembakat är Bäst looks YUMMY

Yet another reason why I wish I lived in a city with an IKEA.

Carl Kleiner was hired by IKEA to shoot the recipes for their new baking book called Hembakat är Bäst [Homemade is Best]. The amazing food styling has been created by Evelina Bratell. New York Magazine just wrote about it and gave credit to photographer, when I think the credit should definitely go to the stylist!

I feel like these recipes need to be framed and hung up in my kitchen.

Wine-O Bachelorettes

The weather was perfect on Saturday for an afternoon of winery tours, boxes of chocolate truffles and a sausage festival. In honor of this adorable friend's bachelorette party, we spent the day in Hermann, Missouri.

Our favorite stop was definitely Adam Puchta Winery. Not only did they have the best wine and live music, we also spotted some very winery themed hats.

I'm thinking this hat needs to be my next DIY project!

Where you at?

I went out for a drink last night with a few friends and we started talking about my blog (probably because I make everything about myself) which got me wondering: Where are you reading from?

Leave me a comment with where you are reading from- I think I've got Missouri and the Dominican Republic covered.

Pom-Pom

“I think it’s nice to say the word ‘pom-pom’ as often as you can.”

It's Friday and I choose to be Happy!

It is a relief that it is finally Friday. Between planning a non-profit fundraiser for 300 people and getting my post-wedding apartment ready for a friend's bachelorette party this weekend I haven't had much time for anything else.

I have this happy chart in a frame in my bedroom and in my office at work. A friend emailed it to me awhile back and it is a nice reminder that you have complete control over your own happiness. I forget that sometimes.

The VooDoo Outfit

I am having a hard time believing that the universe aligned just perfectly so that the outfit I was wearing on the day I discovered my car had been broken into is the exact same outfit I was wearing today when I discovered my car had a nail shoved into it's flat little tire.

Here are the possible options:
1. I have an enemy that I am unaware of
2. This outfit has a voodoo black magic curse on it

Those are the only two options.

It's been nice knowing you J.Crew skinny jeans and floral tunic; I'm throwing you in a dumpster somewhere.

I Spy...

While flipping through the new edition of Rue Magazine, one particular picture caught my eye. This little table looks very familiar.

I found this tray table at a garage sale a few months ago and have been using it next to our bed until our actual nightstand comes off back-order. The magazine sources the table as the $595 Meurice Butler Tray Table from Jonathan Adler. Not too shabby for a $15 garage sale find!

P.S. Do you spy my jewelry bouquet on my bedside table? Errr, I mean my Meurice Butler Tray table!

5 Tidbits from my Week

1. My parents gave JJ a flipvideo for his birthday. He has been constantly filming me doing awkward things. Mostly just eating, since I do that a lot. Anyone want to watch a video of me eating last night's dinner?

2. I finally put the house "back together" after having wedding boxes everywhere and I am feeling much less claustrophobic. I've finally hung a few things on the walls in the bedroom and condensed my "thank you note station" from taking up the entire living room. We've been left some amazing antiques that I'll take pictures of and share sometime next week. Our apartment almost feels too classy for us right now.

3. I am very excited that college football season is back in full-force; mostly because I love tailgating and any excuse to put on a themed outfit. Oh, and I love a good chant. MIZ!

4. I've been put in charge of planning this year's annual Open House fundraiser at work and am feeling extremely overwhelmed. I am really wishing I still lived with an event planner (Kaci- help!!). Tomorrow I plan to walk up and down the isles of Michaels and Party City hoping something will inspire me to make centerpieces.

5. I babysit for a family from church every Thursday night and last night we found a whoopie cushion in one of their toy boxes. I'm not sure what it says about me that the small children grew tired of the farting sounds before I did. Yikes!

Sunday Funday

JJ is studying for the CPA exam and therefore has no life outside of his flashcards and notebooks but we decided to have a picnic at the park on Sunday to get us both out of the apartment. Notice that he didn't fully comprehend the idea of Sunday Funday because he still brought his laptop to study. Lame.

I have been taken over by allergies so I mostly just walked around this pond and blew my nose.

Next time I think we need to inject a little more fun into Sunday Funday. More fun and less kleenex.

Birthday Hat

Good Morning! I've been miserable at posting lately because I have been so busy at work catching up after the wedding. Proof that my life is chaotic: yesterday I had the hand of an at-risk teenager down my pants. I split the zipper of my denim pencil skirt and had to have her help me line the inside with safety pins to get through my meetings.

Today is my husband's (ah! It still feels weird to say husband!) birthday. I felt like I needed to make it very special since this was our first big event as a married couple- and I think it is important to start to develop traditions. So I went in search of this in the apartment:

This Birthday Hat made it's debut years ago at my 21st birthday party. I think THIS needs to be a birthday tradition!

Me being obnoxiously excited on my 21st birthday.

I think I am going to cook this recipe for "engagement chicken." I realize he's already stuck with me but I want to try to seem domestic on his birthday.

Unofficial Start of Fall

I'd been so distracted by the wedding that I failed to realize that fall is rapidly approaching. To me, Labor Day has always been the unofficial start of Fall when I get out all of my fall decorations. But there is definately not an inch of space in the apartment for fall decorations with the current state of box chaos. Today most definately feels like the unofficial start of Fall. It is chilly and damp and there is no sun.

I'm already planning to make a rum cake tonight when I get home to celebrate my unofficial start of Fall and my first weekend as a wife. I've never made one before but it has rum in it so how can you lose?

Here are a few of my favorite fall themed Etsy finds:

What day is the real official start of Fall anyway?

Greetings from Mrs. Bennett

Greetings from Mrs. Bennett!

Here I am, a married woman! The wedding was everything I could have hoped for, and more. It felt like a dream to see all of the different things I had been planning for months and months come together.

Since I'm technically still honeymooning I thought I would upload just a few pictures. These were taken by my sister and JJ's sister.

Doing the pre-wedding dance with my Mom...
And getting REALLY into the dance...

Jewelry bouquet

My sister reading the "I like you" book during the ceremony

One of my bridesmaids caught the bouquet...twice!

Making our get-away. We were chauffeured by the same driver who drove JJ's parents on their wedding night 30 years ago!

I'm sure I'll have many more stories and many more photos later this week but for right now I'm busy unpacking, trying to figure out how to change my name and eating leftover chocolates.
